PRENSA
LA PRENSA ANTIGUA – the old wine press – features an exclusive opportunity to sample a range of the wonderful wines of La Ribera del Duero in the evocative setting of an old traditional village wine press. Learn how this ingenious method of extracting juice from the locally picked grapes in this medieval lagar enabled the villagers to produce organic wine with well-balanced tannins which was then carried on their backs in filled whole sheepskins to the nearby caves dug deep into the hills to mature.
This wine experience has an emphasis on the roots and origins of wine production across the viticultural lands of El Cid, famed hero of Castile, dotted with romantic hilltop fortresses and monastic sanctuaries, and features tutored wine-tastings with the owners of family bodegas, regional co-operatives and world-renowned wineries of excellence in two separate wine appellations.
As well as visiting centuries-old underground cellars and walking through vines of up to 80 years old, we will have the chance to explore a fascinating wine museum inside a formidable 10th century hilltop castle and enjoy a wine and tapas tour before spending a night in the beautiful old town of the World Heritage city of Salamanca.
