SENTIDOS

SEIS SENTIDOS – the six senses wine experience – is a completely bespoke package tailored to your requirements which offers a unique and authentic experience of the ancient wine country of the Spanish interior, sampling the fresh and fruity young wines of the indigenous varietals of the region, as well as the outstanding matured crianzas and reservas of older vintage which pair so well with the gastronomy of the Spanish meseta, famous for the finest acorn-fed Iberian pork, free-range Morucha beef and roast-suckling lamb.

A centuries-old bodega operated for generations by the family of a true vinicultural pioneer, a local village vineyard cultivating unique terraced vines, and an elegant estate producing wine of excellence exported across the globe all feature on this tour, and the route takes in the varied terroir of five separate wine regions producing extraordinary red, white and rosado wines.

Points of cultural interest include a wine-tasting visit to a beautiful 15th century castle estate, an overnight stay in a converted convent constructed in the 1600s under the shadow of a formidable 10th century hilltop fortress, and a tranquil evening in one of the most beautiful villages in all of Spain, set in the land of the great Castilian hero, El Cid.

We will also take time for relaxed walks around the charming medieval villages of the Sierra de Salamanca appellation as well as the many renaissance gems in the old town of the World Heritage Site city itself, seat of the famous 800 year-old university – the third oldest in the western world – where Christopher Columbus came to garner the patronage of the Castilian Crown for his journey to the New World.

Further features of this bespoke wine experience are the opportunity to play 18 holes on a par 72 country-woodland course of native holm oaks and the chance to chill out in the spa of our accommodation in a historic wine village.

SEIS SENTIDOS is a unique wine experience designed for your party to excite all the senses whilst exploring the best of this authentic and ancient viticultural land on a journey of discovery of world-class wines.

Tour details

Day 1

Don Federico will personally meet and greet you off your flight at Madrid Barajas Airport Terminal 1 and organise refreshment as required prior to setting off on the journey. Once the entire group is assembled we will make our way to our dedicated tour vehicle just outside the terminal, load the luggage and take our seats for our gentle 2.5 hour trip up through the mountains of the Sierra de Guadarrama and on to Salamanca.

On arrival we will check-in at our lovely hotel, your home for the next two nights, located right in the heart of the old town by the city’s two beautiful cathedrals, constructed between 1513 and 1733.

After a chance to freshen up in your room we have the option of a short orientation walk around some of the highlights of Spain’s ‘City of Gold’, awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 1988, stopping off along the way to have a few tapas in way of lunch.

Afterwards, you will be at liberty to take a stroll and soak up the old town atmosphere or return to the hotel to relax for a few hours before we meet up again for a short walk through the floodlit old streets to an enoteca (wine and tapas restaurant) for dinner accompanied by a degustación of delicious and little-known regional wines.

SENTIDOS

Places on this customised SEIS SENTIDOS wine experience are exclusively reserved for your party of 8 and are priced at £1,350 per person for the 6-day/5-night tour, based on couples sharing double rooms and with dedicated transport throughout.

The tour price covers all accommodation in charming hotels sited in historic locations, wine bodega visits, cultural visits, generous meals on a half-board basis*, tutored wine-tasting sessions, transport during the tour, including transfer to and from the wine regions from Madrid Barajas Airport (excluding flights or onward travel) or to Madrid city centre on day 6 of your tour, and of course the fully supervised guiding service of your personal tour host, Don Federico.

Included in the price of this tour is the charter of a dedicated tour vehicle adequate for the party of 8 guests and a professional driver licensed to chauffeur larger group sizes in comfort for the duration of the trip.

Also included in the price on your bespoke tour are the green fees and golf club hire for your entire party of 8 for your round of golf on day 3 of the trip and the option of a spa session at our hotel on day 4.

* Breakfast and the main meal of the day is provided on a half-board basis. This is usually sufficient for most guests as portions at Spanish mealtimes are generous. Generally the main meal of the day is a three-course lunch as the custom in Spain is to eat smaller tapas dishes in bars in the evening and this is left to client discretion. However, dinner is provided on some days instead of lunch where it is dictated by the itinerary and on those days lunch options are at client discretion. Please see the Tour Details above for the daily meal plan and FAQ for further information on dietary requirements.

Frequently asked questions

What is meant by shared or double room?

Prices for the tour include all accommodation and are quoted per person based on sharing twin or double rooms for the duration of the trip. It is essential to advise us at the time of booking which tour guests will be sharing and whether twin beds or a double bed is preferred.

Single occupancy of a double room is also available subject to a supplement.

Are there any mobility requirements?

The nature of La Ruta Don Federico involves visits to authentic, rustic wineries, walking through vineyards on uneven soil and descending steps into centuries-old subterranean cellars, as well as stops at sights of natural beauty which require reasonably good mobility to fully enjoy the experience. As such, the tours are not suitable for wheelchair users or those with restricted mobility. If in doubt, please contact us for advice prior to making a reservation.

What are the group sizes?

La Ruta de Don Federico offers a highly-personalised, high-quality authentic wine experience, with groups of a maximum of 6 guests.
* This wine experience is a bespoke tour for 8 guests.

What luggage may I bring?

On this bespoke tour the usual luggage restriction to one cabin bag is relaxed and you may bring one checked-in suitcase and/or a cabin bag (please check your airline restrictions). There is no allowance for a golf bag as hire equipment will be provided as part of the tour package.

Do I need travel insurance?

Every care will be taken to ensure your comfort and safety and a welcome briefing will provide advice on safe conduct during visits in natural and agricultural terrain. However, it is a condition of your booking that you have valid and adequate travel insurance prior to and throughout your tour. A suitable insurance policy should provide adequate cover for medical expenses arising through illness or accident prior to or during the holiday and loss of holiday monies through cancellation and curtailment of the holiday for insurable reasons.

Can you cater for allergies and dietary requirements?

La Ruta de Don Federico organises tours primarily in Castile and León, where meat such as lamb, pork, ham and beef are specialities of the region. However, a wide range of gastronomy is offered during the wine experiences including fish and vegetarian options, and other special dietary requirements can be catered for if you advise us at the time of booking.

What flight times should I book?

There is a degree of flexibility on pick up and drop off times as tour guests may arrive from different departure points. In general you should arrive at Madrid Airport between 12–4pm on the day of arrival and fly after 4pm on the day of departure. It is advisable that you contact us to discuss and confirm this before you purchase your flights. * Airport pick up on this bespoke trip is at 11am.
